About

My name is Steve Beck and I am 53 years old. I live in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia. I am the father of 2 great kids, boy and girl and both geniuses (well I think so).

Career wise, I worked for Telstra, a telecom company in Australia from 1974-1996. Since 1987 I was a troubleshooter for both PSTN and Mobile telephony networks throughout Australia. These are fully computerized systems which run 1000+ programs with millions of lines of code and run in real time. From 1996-2006 I work for Ericsson China in Beijing, Nanjing and Shenyang doing the same as for Telstra. From 2007- to about Feb 2010 I worked as an English speaking teacher at 2 schools in Shenyang, China.

In between I wrote a book ‘Soldier, Sailor, Scribe’ which you can read about on the link provided.

I decided to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour from August 1980. I am writing this blog because I am sure that Jesus has things to say through me to anybody who reads this.

Your comment “The one thing I noticed is that lefties and eco-nuts don’t seem to have a sense of humour. They don’t understand satire or irony.” on WUWT 22 June struck a chord and since my response is off-topic there I decided to write to you personally.
I too have noticed that and have wondered whether that is because that personality type (for want of a better classification) is naturally attracted to such groups (‘lefties and eco-nuts’) or whether it is because a sense of humour and the ability to understand satire and irony only develop as we grow up and these characters don’t ever do that.
    Just a thought!

I don’t think it is personality type because there are driven people who still have a sense of humour. I think it is people who have what I call “The Saviour Complex” and their desire to “save” something overrides everything else and they lose sight of the real world. Other than that it is difficult to tell.
